Blog Commenting and High PageRank

by Oes Tsetnoc in Link Building with 33 Comments

One method of building up one way links quickly is by commenting on dofollow blogs, an on-going method of link building I am utilizing for oes tsetnoc.

When you search for dofollow blogs, you will find lots of lists geared toward blogs with high PageRank. The important thing to remember with these blogs is that, unless the site has a top commentator list, your link will not likely be on the homepage, the highest ranked page of their site.

Finding High PR Articles

What you want to look for is older articles that have already gained a PageRank of their own. Having the high PageRank blog list is useful, because typically, blogs with a PR 5 will have PR 4 and 5 rated articles. If you know about the last time Google PageRank has been updated, look for articles before that date. Those will be the ones that have a PR of their own, meaning that you will have your link on a high PR page.

Commenting on Newer Articles

Also, while the main objective of being on a high ranked page may not be accomplished for awhile, it is good to remember that popular new articles on high PageRank blogs may eventually get a PageRank of their own. So being the first comment on a new article is a great thing, as crawlers sometimes place more importance on links higher in the page. Plus the first comment will be mostly likely viewed by everyone else reading the article, and assuming that the comment is intelligent and valuable to the post, the first commentator’s link will get a good bit of referral traffic.

Your Blog Commenting Strategy

Do you use blog commenting for link building, and place emphasis on high ranked blogs? What is your strategy?

Thank you! I haven’t been using blogs as much as forums for link building, but it looks like it is time to change that.

Interesting article. I recently purchase blog commenting demon from the guys that made bookmarking demon. I haven’t been able to test it yet due to time constraints but I soon hope to see how good PR blog commenting can effect the rankings of my test sites. I will report back when I find out more about the topic.

I’d say one thing to be aware of, especially for people entering this SEO contest is to be aware of ‘top commentators’ widgets.

For a new site that has 0 to little links and then gain, which could be thousands, this can have a negative impact on the search engines… just ask my ex-employer who had a new guy come in after me (AND I SO DIDN’T TELL HIM TO DO THIS!), he built links via blogs (fine, of course as part of a LB strategy) but he only did blogs! Some of which had Top Commentators widget enabled – the clients site, that was quite new and only a few hundred IB links went to over 5k in links within a week. Their top keyword went from ranking a constant 1st to 150th. OUCH! #failwhale!

I could be wrong, but I think Google assigns internal PR fairly soon after a new page is crawled. Even though a page doesn’t show PR in the toolbar if there hasn’t been a public update, it may already have a fairly high internal PR. Of course you won’t know whether it will have a high PR but as you point out there’s benefit to commenting on recent posts. Beyond SEO, commenting is a great way to get noticed by other bloggers as long as you stay on topic.

It seems that the blogging community is finally fighting back from the nofollow tags that have become rampant. One note that hurts the blogger is still comment spam. 100 good comments and links can be wiped out by 1 spam comment. The old saying holds true, “1 rotten apple can spoil the whole bunch.”

I am aware that commenting on ‘DoFollow’ blogs is good for back-links however I do comment over ‘NoFollow’ ones too since I am interested in the quality of the blog. Sometimes I find ‘DoFollow’ that do not worth to check so I do not comment over.

On the other hand, it seems that ‘NoFollow’ also are being “somehow” indexed but I do not know the impact of this on PageRank. Check the latest entry over [seo-writer.com/blog/] where David made an experiment to see how ‘Yahoo’ index NoFollow blogs. It’s a nice post!

I’m using this tactics more and more in the last few weeks and it seems it will be effective, just concentrate and contribute to the website or story you are commenting on and you’ll be fine, even with comment moderation.
5 well-thought comments a day are more valuable that 50 quick “thx!” or “nice article”, and the other visitors are more likely to click on your and follow your blog..

Dofollow blog commenting gives dofollow backlinks that passes page rank (PR) value to your preferred URL. The higher page’s page rank, the better your chances to get good PR in next update. This is part of your link building activity that concentrate on google search engine and its ranking system (PR).Really an interesting article.Great blog commenting tips.
